This is courage. After Wisconsin’s governor illegally closed the capitol, protesters are sleeping outside. Tents not allowed. It’s 15ºF.
I saw Tumblr users passionately support Libya, but they have been absolutely silent about these amazing people. Let’s show some support for these protesters too. The might not face death, but they are still fighting hard for their beliefs and refuse to back down and let their rights be taken away.
That asshole actually shut down the capitol? Oh my god, what is happening to my country.
An inevitable conclusion, some would say. But much love and power to those who refuse to accept such fates and put their bodies on the line to fight back! They are life, love, power and hope.
WHAT.
While I was protesting this weekend, they made it incredibly difficult to enter the capitol and they locked the doors, shutting everyone in, fairly early. This was after a law was quickly shoved through the House by the Republicans on Thursday, I believe, in an effort to restrict future access. On Saturday night there was a man sleeping on the steps because he went out to get food and they wouldn’t let him back in. On Sunday, Walker tried to lock the pubic out of the capitol completely but thankfully, a judge ruled this action to be unconstitutional according to Wisconsin state statute.
The people who have been faithfully staging sit-ins at the capitol, and there are a lot of them, are incredible and should provide inspiration to the entire country. Leave it to a bunch of union workers and committed citizens to show us how democracy is done.
All of this. Except, I know tons of Tumblrs who have been covering the Wisconsin protests. We have not been silent.
these people are amazing.
